Wake-Up and Sing Carmarthenshire

A deep dive into the transformative power of raising your voice in harmony with others.

You are warmly invited to join in this relaxing and uplifting singing retreat day at the Ceridwen Centre in Carmarthenshire.

We will be learning and singing a variety of music from Britain and around the world, some upbeat and rhythmic, some slow and harmonious. You won’t need any previous experience of singing or to know any of the songs in advance – we will all learn the songs by ear together on the day.

The singing will be interwoven with playful movement, listening and stillness – all of which will help us to get the most out of our voices and out of this opportunity to sing in harmony with each other.

Come as you are, and leave feeling connected, nourished and alive!

Led by Swansea based Choir Leader, Feldenkrais Teacher and Natural Voice Practitioner Kate Davies.

What Participants Say...

Fabulous day at the Ceridwen Centre. Enjoyed from start to finish, sang some great songs and met some lovely people.

Moved to tears at times by the harmonies and feeling of ‘oneness’ in the room. Thank you Kate and all and will definitely see you at the next one.

I would recommend Kate Davies’ singing groups to anyone, whether they’re an experienced singer or a complete novice. I never used to be a joiner but I’ve joined Croeso choir, the singing days at Ceridwen and singing holidays in Elan Valley and Morocco.

A wise friend once said to me, ‘it’s never a bad idea to go for a walk, and it’s never a bad idea to go and hear live music.’ To which I would add, it’s never a bad idea to go and sing with Kate.  Put simply, it’s a joy!

Kate is a super singing teacher, choosing lovely harmonic songs and leading enjoyable workshops. She’s a caring woman, encouraging those of us who aren’t confident or particularly good singers.

Singing is so good for our mental health and well-being that I always feel better for a session with Kate. The full day workshop at Ceridwen is a lovely way to spend time sharing our voices in good company.

Frequently Asked Questions about Wake-Up and Sing Carmarthenshire

When and where does Wake-Up and Sing happen?

We meet around twice a year for a full days’ singing from 10.30am – 4.30pm.

Our venue is the incredibly beautiful ‘Old Dairy’ at Ceridwen Centre, Drefach-Felindre, Llandysul, Carmarthenshire, SA44 5XE.

It’s a wonderful space – both light and cosy, and with a very special acoustic which keeps me coming back for more.

Parking is available further up the hill, approximately five minutes’ walk away. There are also a few spaces nearer for those with mobility issues.

What kind of music do you sing?

For Wake-Up and Sing I always aim to choose songs that can be learned and embodied in a single session. Inevitably there is an element of learning involved but I hope to strike the right balance – leaving plenty of time to enjoy the singing of the songs.

I also aim for a variety of styles and themes, often including something relevant to the season. I always make sure to include plenty of interesting and satisfying rhythm and harmony.

Do I need to audition?

No, we welcome singers of all levels. No prior experience is needed and we won’t make you audition. Enthusiasm is all you need!

Do I need to be able to read music?

Not at all. We don’t use sheet music, instead all learning is done by ear so that everyone can pick it up easily.

How much does Wake-Up and Sing cost?

The charge per session is currently £35 (or £30 if you book early). Make sure you sign up to my mailing list to be the first to hear about new dates and early bird prices.

What should I bring?

Mainly just yourself and an open heart! I would also recommend loose comfortable clothing that you feel you can move around in – flat shoes, or slippers are welcome if you may wish to take off shoes.

I have limited mobility - is this a problem?

No. The session involves movement but everyone does this in a way that works for them.

The room we sing in has wheelchair access and there is an accessible loo. Please get in touch if you want more information about this.

Do men come to Wake-Up and Sing?

Absolutely 100%! We welcome voices in all ranges but tend to attract more higher voices on the whole. Low voices add something very special to the mix – it’s really not the same without them – so basses, do come along! You’ll be made very welcome.

I've got another question!
